What I Like About Lulu Self Publishing

  • No upfront costs

  • Ease of site navigation

  • Better cover creator than Createspace

  • Ebook publishing to iBookstore for the iPad
  • More options, including hardcover and spiral bound

Downsides to Lulu Self Publishing?

  • Higher cost per book - especially when ordering books to sell offline or at events

  • Longer wait time to get listed on Amazon.com (6-8 weeks compared to 1-2 weeks with Createspace)

  • Higher shipping costs to international addresses and per the Lulu's website regarding shipping orders... "Delivery is not guaranteed, and we will not be able to locate or refund the order."

Bottom line?

Ultimately the decision is up to you. There are positives and negatives to each company. For many reasons, Createspace is a better option for me. However, Lulu is a great option as well. Especially if you're publishing a cookbook, a hardback book or a children's book Lulu may be the best choice for you.
