Kindle Ebook Template Options
by: Shelley Hitz

Terra,

There are many options for Kindle Ebook templates.

1. You can use my Kindle template (.doc) already formatted specifically for the Kindle and simply copy and paste your book into this template.

You can preview this template here:

2. You can use software to create the .epub format Kindle accepts. Here are a couple free software options:

http://calibre-ebook.com/

http://www.juliansmart.com/ecub/

3. You can use a tutorial to design and format your own template. There is a great book by Joshua Tallent, Kindle Formatting: The Complete Guide" that can help you do it yourself.

4. Or you can hire someone to do it for you. Here are a couple people who will convert your template for you.

Kindleformatting.com

GoPublished.com

5. Here are some additional free formatting guides if you truly want to DIY. :)

Smashwords Style Guide:http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/52

Kindle can reformat PDF files
by: Wendy, www,retirement-online.com

Simple PDF files work on a Kindle... if you can read a single page on the Kindle-sized page, you are good to go!

Unfortunately, I like to increase the text size so I can read best with no squinting.. grin!

Not a problem... I simply send any PDF E-Book files to my own Kindle email address. Kindle automatically reformats the file as a Kindle file and I download. Then it's like any file, text can be increased (or not).

There are a few glitches -- but it's the content I'm seeking in my e-books so they don't bother me in the least. Sometimes, two words are run together, little things like that.. I notice and I read on, whatever!

Just wanted everyone to know that PDF files work fine on Kindles!

p.s. SUPER Website!!

Make Epub Documents with Your Mac
by: Terri www.natural-cure-alternatives.com

For those with a Mac computer, there is an option to put your Pages document into an epub format. I haven?t done it yet, but did learn how.

Create your book in pages. You can use the ?Share? menu option. When you go into the Share menu, you have the option to export. After you click export, you have additional options that come up for the format you wish to export. You can then select epub. Its very simple and easy.

If you are interested in changing the page size into a Kindle friendlier version (or any ereader), you can do that by editing the page size of the document before you export it to an epub format.

Happy Writing!

P.S. Thanks for such a great site with tons of great information.

Thanks for the extra tips :)
by: Shelley Hitz

Wendy and Terri,
Thanks for sharing those tips! It is a nice feature to be able to send PDF's to your Kindle. They are slightly reformatted and so don't look exactly the same but is a benefit for the Kindle owners.

However, if you want to be listed in the Amazon Kindle store, you still would need to convert your book to a different file.

I'm not a Mac user, but that sounds like an easy solution for Mac users, Terri. I'd be interested to hear how it goes for you once you do use it.

Thanks again for sharing :)

Nook template...
by: Melinda

Melinda,
The best way to get on the Nook is to upload your book to Smashwords.com. Then, from Smashwords, you can publish to the Nook as well as several other eReader platforms.

Thanks!

New Kindle Guide
by: Shelley Hitz

Just wanted to let you know there is a new Kindle guide on formatting your book available for free here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007URVZJ6

Also, my template can be edited slightly to submit it to Smashwords.com. Then via Smashwords, you can submit it to the iBookstore, Nook, Sony, etc. I have done this with several of my books and share how I do it in my training here: http://ebook.self-publishing-coach.com

Text Boxes
by: Heather

Annonymous,
You are correct in your assumption that Kindle does not support text boxes. Kindle is very strict about what they allow and don't allow.

Adding chapters to your Kindle template
by: Walter Danley

Hi Shelley;
I love the template you created, but can not figure out how to add chapters that link to the TOC. Your video promised to show that, but didn't. How do I add 20 new chapters to the book and link them to the table of content?

Hi Walter,
Shelley's training: Get Your Kindle eBook Done! teaches you how to format the linked table of contents. The video here was just giving you an overview of that training.
